Established in 2018, Truant is committed to developing, producing, and financing high-quality film, television, and documentary projects for global audiences. With offices in Sydney and Los Angeles, our focus is creating thought-provoking, entertaining, and artistic stories, that showcase diverse perspectives.

Collaborating with both emerging and established talent, we produce live-action genre content with international appeal. Our upcoming projects include the psychological thriller The Reunion, the sci-fi romance Turn Me On, and dark-comedy thriller I Don’t Understand You.

Team

Toby Nalbandian

Toby joined the Animal Logic Entertainment (ALE) team in 2013, where he contributed to the development of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Peter Rabbit franchise and ALE’s slate of animated and live-action hybrid feature films.

In 2019, he spearheaded the launch of Truant Pictures and as Vice President of Production & Development, Toby oversees and produces a range of narrative features, television, and documentary projects.

Toby's recent credits as a producer include the psychological thriller The Reunion and the sci-fi comedy Turn Me On, starring Bel Powley and Nick Robinson. He also served as Executive Producer on the dark comedy thriller I Don’t Understand You.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Toby now divides his time between Sydney and Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the UCLA Producers Program.

Gregory Schmidt

Gregory joined Animal Logic Entertainment (ALE) in 2015 and played a pivotal role in launching its specialty live-action division, Truant Pictures. As the Vice President of Production & Development, he oversees Truant Pictures slate of narrative features, documentaries, and television projects. Under the Truant Picture banner, Gregory produced The Reunion and Turn Me On, and served as Executive Producer on I Don’t Understand You.

Before the launch of Truant Pictures, Gregory worked in development on ALE's slate of animated, hybrid, and VFX live-action films, including the Peter Rabbit franchise.

A University of Michigan graduate, Gregory's true education began when he had the opportunity to work with two of his heroes, Wes Craven and genre writer/director Lawrence Kasdan, working on a wide range of projects from indie films like Darling Companion to studio blockbusters like Clash of the Titans.
